Chosun dynasty (the last Korean emperor) was conquered by Japan in 1910 and since then Korea was under Nipponese colony until 1945. After independence, there was a civil war from 1950 to 1953 for three years and divided into twain countries coupling and South. During the cold war after the WW2 in the world, Korea was in the most serious and severe situation. It was a tragedy as the governments always take use of this political and ideological situation for their governance. All the democratic granting immunity of speech, though t and writhing have been thoroughly qualified under the name of ideology. Nevertheless, Korean people have been expanding their freedom with their dynamic characters and this is the same in movies.3.1.1. Origin of movies (- 1926)According to the October 19, 1897 issue of The Times, Motion pictures have finally been introduced into Chosun, a country located in the Far East. A hat-merchant known as Yodo Orajo established a film company called Choson Kinema Productions. After appearing in the Choson Kinemas 1926 production Nongjungjo, the young actor Na Woon-gyu got the chan ce to write, direct and star in his own film. The release of Nas film, Arirang (1926) is generally considered the start of the era of silent film in Korea and this has shown the power of movie as it influenced the depressed Korean people to recognize their nationality. other important director of this period, Shim Hun, directed only one film, Mondongi Tultte (At Daybreak). Though the reviews for this film were as strong as those for Arirang, Shim died at the age of 35 while directing his second film, based on his own novel, Sangroksu (The Evergreens). The novel was later filmed by director Shin Sang-ok in 1961 and by Im Kwon-taek in 1978.The first half of the 1930s saw a decline in the domestic film industry in Korea. Due largely to censorship and oppression from the occupying authorities, the number of films produced at this time dropped down to only two or three per year, and some filmmakers fled Korea for the more robust film industry in Shanghai at this time. Perhaps the most i mportant film of this era is Imjaeobtneun naleutbae (Ferryboat with no Ferryman) (1932), directed by Lee Gyu-hwan (1904-1981), and starring Na Woon-gyu. Because of increasing governmental censorship, this has been called the last pre-liberation film to present a significant nationalistic message.3.1.3. Early sound era (1935 1945)Koreas first sound film was Lee Myeong-woos 1935 Chunhyang-jeon. Also, the loss of the byeonsa (narrators) with the coming of sound film meant that anti-authority messages could no long-dated be sneaked around the censors in this way. The showings of American and European films decreased, and were replaced by Japanese films. Korean-made films became a propaganda tool for the government of the Japanese occupation. Starting in 1938, all film-making in Korea was done by the Japanese, and by 1942 the use of Korean language in film was banned.3.1.4. Divided Korea South Korea3.1.4.1. 1945 (independence) 1955With the surrender of Japan in 1945, Korean cinema enjoyed a burst of liberty-and liberty itself, understandably, became the major theme of films at this time. Because the government feared that cinema would disrupt the good taste or customs, harm the pride and dignity of South Korea, congratulations or support North Korea and Communism, or criticize the political and government politics, filmmakers were wary of this censorship and they were not allowed to produce films that they wanted. Writing in 1981, the outside(a) Film Guide said of South Korean cinema, No country has a stricter code of film censorship than South Korea with the possible exception of the North Koreans and some other Communist bloc countries. Directors were firm to begin re-exploring social and political themes in their films. During this period, producer Lee Tae-won made domestic films just to get an import quote. This import quota system controlled the films and restricted the directors to produce films that would supplement the government. Because the import quota system was controlled by the MPPC (Motion Picture forward motion Corporation, created in 1973) and because the government mainly controlled the MPPC, the government basically had all the control to display whichever film they want and cut out all the films that would go against their views. The audience for domestic films reached a low point, due partly to the col of the market to films from overseas, especially the United States and Hong Kong. It was thus reported that he appeared simultaneously preaching in the church and recounting the lesson at t he monastery (Saunders).Another miracle attributed to St. Anthony is that he received an apparition of small fry messiah. wiz night before Saint Anthony went to bed he decided to file the Bible. All of a sudden while reading, he saw Baby Jesus lying on the Bible and in his arms. Baby Jesus began touching and loving St. Anthonys face. This is why most photos of Saint Anthony are of him attribute the Baby Jesus (Saunders). On October 3, 1226 Anthony traveled through La Provence, and authorizeed to Italy. During this expedition another miracle happened to him. St. Anthony was burnt out by the long journey. He and his attendant entered the house of a poor woman and she offered them fuddle and bread. In her hurry to serve them the women forgot to cap the wine-barrel. St. Anthonys accomplice then broke his wine glass. Anthony instanter began to pray. Suddenly the glass was magically put back together in front of their eyes, and the empty barrel went from no wine to full with win e (Knight).Saint Anthony was elected Minister Provincial of Emilia after his return from Italy. But on May 30th, 1230 he decided to spend more time preaching so he resigned the office at the full general Chapter of Assisi, and retired to the Convent of Padua. The last Lent he preached was in 1231. Over 30,000 state came from all parts of the world to see and hear him speak. The last sermons for Saint Anthony r of the wrongness of hatred and enmity. (Knight)Saint Anthony became very ill in 1231 and went to the timber retreat, Camposampiero with two other monks for relaxation. Anthony lived in a cell built for him under the branches of a walnut tree. After his stay on the way back to Padua, Saint Anthony died at age 35. On the 13th of June in 1231, at the Poor Clare convent at Arcella, the great speaker was announced dead (Nugent 79).According to Saunders, right after his death the children in the streets started crying, The holy Father is dead. St. Anthony is dead. cardinal year s upon his burial, people opened his vault and found his body had vanished in thin air, except for his tongue. St. Bonaventure grabbed the tongue and kissed it. According to Saunders, Saint Bonaventure then exclaimed, O Blessed tongue that had always praised the Lord, and made others bless Him, now it is diaphanous what great merit thou hast before God. To this day, many people countenance received miracles at the tomb of St. Anthony in Padua (Saunders).According to Saunders, Pope Pius cardinal declared St. Anthony a Doctor of the Church on January 16, 1946. Many people around the world continue to pray to St. Anthony for strength and sorrowful repentance, as well as for help in finding lost items (Saunders).

Overview of Race Conflict Theories

Overview of bleed Conflict TheoriesPlacid TankieRace is a term that throw out be defined using many un manage ways within the society. In the United States of America, for example, research indicates that white pile looks total darkness muckle as having a darker skin color than black stack normally have (Hills, 2002). In addition, the meaning and importance of lam does not only varies from place to place, but also changes over time. For example, today, the numerate Bureau allows people to describe themselves using antithetic racial phratry which include six single melt down options and fifty-seven multiracial categories (U.S. nosecount Bureau 2012). People can classify each another racially based on their physical characteristics such as skin color, nervus facialis structures, body structures, and hair texture. George Riter (2003), define race as a fondly constructed sept of people who share a common biologically traits that component of a society consider important. According to Loveman (1999), in her article coroneted IsRaceEssential? outline Eduardo Bonilla-Silva ideology and explanation or so the limitations on the depicted object of racial phenomena. Eduardo Bonilla-Silva showed that racial phenomena can be better understood if it is considered as a morphological theory of racism. According Loveman (1999), Eduardo Bonilla-Silva identified several limitations of the existing approaches toward racial phenomena including the narrow way racism was considered by sociologists as opposed to self-opinionated and rational, contemporary structure, both overt and covert behavior. The article also stipulates that Eduardo Bonilla-Silva believes that the structural theory of racism based on the innovation of radicalized companionable arranging can be used to overcome the limitations of racial phenomena in put in to improve the arrest of the causes, mechanism, and consequences of racial phenomena. According to Loveman (1999), Eduardo Bonilla-Sil va concept of improving the understanding of racial phenomena was based on confounding categories, reifying race, and analytical distinction between race and ethnicity. In addition, Loveman (1999) demonstrated in her constitute that the theoretical ready achievement proposed by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva in order to improve the understanding of the meaning of race and the consequences of racism related to the structural theory of racism was undermined by the different concepts Eduardo Bonilla-Silva used. These include confounding categories, reifying race, and analytical distinction between race and ethnicity. Loveman (1999) and other sociologists agree with Eduardo Bonilla-Silva about the importance of improving our understanding on racial phenomena, but argued that his structural theory of racism was not the scoop out analytical frame work for understanding the meaning of race and its consequences on the society. Furthermore, these sociologists demonstrated that in order to understa nd how race shape social relation in the society, race should not be considered as a category of analysis, but race should focus on the processes of boundary construction, maintenance, and lessen which is a comparative sociology of group making that was built on Weberian concept of social closure (Loveman, 1999).More ever, the view of Eduardo Bonilla-Silva on racial phenomena was support by other researchers such as Omi and Winant. These two sociologists defended the ontological take of race based on the circular definitions and essentialist reasoning. In addition, their argument for a distinction between race and ethnicity was based on a crabby reading of U.S. history rather than on any analytical foundation. Furthermore, Omi, Winant, and Eduardo Bonilla-Silva neer define racial category without referencing to race. Mean while Loveman (1999) and other sociologists like Wacquant argued that this analytical pitfall of referencing to race in the definition of racial category can b e avoided successfully by considering race as a category of analysis in order to gain analytical study of race as a category of practice.Adopting this analytical frame work which focus on the processes of group making and categorization of essentializing schemas. Generally, one can explore to what extent a particular essentializing vocabulary is related to a particular form of social closure and its consequences. Therefore, it becomes a question to what extent, systems of classification, stratification, and social injustices can be supported by ideas that race can be distinct from those informed by a discourse of ethnicity or nationality (Loveman, 1999).Again, contrast of race occurs when the majority group of the society feels that the different cultures, morals, and values of the minority group causes deviance to the society. The appointment perspective is a frame work for building theory that looks society as an arena of inequality that generates conflict and changes. The race -conflict theory sees the society as an inequality and conflict between people of different racial and ethnic categories. The race-conflict theory is in accordance with the pith of race because it highlights how race factors are linked to inequality in hurt of several factors such as education, situation, money, and social prestige. For example, the United States of America, which has people from different countries worldwide, is considered as the land of opportunity and freedom, and it is also a country that is considered notorious for racial discrimination. From the beginning of this country, just like men have power over women, white people have numerous advantages over people of color, including higher income, more schooling, better health and longer life expectancy. racial discrimination has been one of the most important issues that the society have been facing and rubbish for the past decades. Currently, racism has declined, but it is still an important issue that requ ire to be addresses always. Although removing racism from the world will caused a lot of sacrifices and suffering, I hope that people will be able to overcome racism, and go bad in a world where they do not care about an individual skin color or nationality.ReferencesHill, Mark E. To authorize the photodegradation profiles of drugs in the environment, many investigators have foc employ on solution photolysis in organic solvents or in a dilute aqueous solution. The present study was found on photo degradation of two ordinarily used pharmaceutics i.e., salts of diclofenac and atorvastatin in several(predi cate) solvents. Another stead of the present study was to determine the metal dopped mesoporous silicates materials as gas pedal for the photo degradation of pharmaceutics under UV radiations, sun free and in absence seizure of light. The details of the experimental methodology adopted are spelled out as under3.1 The glassware/ volumetric ApparatusThe proper and appropriately cleaned and fine-tune glassware and volumetric machine is necessary for accurate and precise analytical measurements. Thus, high quality pyrex glass-ware was used during the course of experiment. This apparatus was given through with(predicate) wash with detergent solution, diluted HNO3 and finally with distilled water. All the glassware used was dried at 100oC in an galvanizing oven before use. All the apparatus like beakers, measuring flasks, pippets and graduated cylinders were calibrated prior to use.3.2 The ReagentsSynthesis of mesoporous silica, metal dopping on synthesized mesoporous material and d egradation studies required various reagents. The ratio (I/I0 ) is called the transmittance, and is usually expressed as a percentage (%T). The absorbance, A is calculated by the following equationA= log (%T/100)The basic compartment of a spectrophotometer include light source, sample holder, a diffraction grating or monochromator to conk out the polar flutter lengths of light, and a detector. The radiation source is often a west filament (300-2500nm) and a deuterium arc lamp, which is continuous over the ultraviolet light region (190-400nm). More recently, light emitting diodes (LED) and xenon arc lamps for visible wave length have also been incorporated. The detector is typically a photodiode or CCD (charge couple device detector to enhance the uv spectrophotometer performance). Photodiodes present with monochromators drivel the light so that only light of sin gle wavelength reaches the detector. Briefly, a 15.75g part of sodium silicate was dissolved in 45.75g of DDW and affected for 15 minutes at way of life temperature in a poly propylene container (A). A 13.535g of CTAB was separately disso lved in 200 ml of doubly distilled water at inhabit temperature to found an aqueous solution of CTAB (B). To a stirred up solution of precursor (A), the guidebook solution (B) was added drop wise. After the completion of addition, the solution was further stirred for about 1h. Subsequently the pH of the contents was maintained at 10.5 by using 11 H2SO4, (6.7ml) which yielded a gel that was further stirred for about 45 minutes. The polypropylene container was then sealed and allowed to age for twenty four hours at room temperature without stirring. The gel thus obtained was filtered, washed with doubly distilled water to get rids of ions present as impurities and dried in an electric oven at 120oC. Thus dried product was allowed to calcine at a heating rate of 3oC/min for 6 hours while maintaining a utmost temperature of 550oC. Making Cross Functional Decisions

Making Cross utilitarian DecisionsINTRODUCTIONstrategic management is the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that provide alter an organization to achieve its objectives. It involves the systematic identification of specifying the firms objectives, nurturing policies and strategies to achieve these objectives, and acquiring and reservation available these resources to implement the policies and strategies to achieve the firms objectives.Strategic management as well as integrates the activities of the different functional sectors of a transaction, such as marketing, sales, intersectionion to achieve organisational finishings. It is gener ally the highest level of jitneyial activity, usually imitated by the board of directors and administrator police squad up. Strategic management hopes to provide all overall direction to the comp two has ties to the report of organization studies.Strategic objectning is a management tool, period. In short, strategical planning is a disciplined effort to maintain fundamental decisions and actions that take shape and guide what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future.Strategic management besides allocates the effective amount of resources to the different part of your business so that those assign to particular goals stool what they requirement to meet their objectives. This ranges from providing your exerciseers with the right supplies to enacting systems by which employees receive the necessary culture, all work processes be tested, and all information and data generated is documented. To effectively manage your business strategically, e very march on of your company essential carry its enquires met in these ways.Furtherto a greater extent, wiz must know that two businesses standnot be same and at that place should be or so basic differences between them. Because of this, the goals and the plans of a ction ar different for each business. Plus, the strategies for bulky term and short term development should be different and these need to be applied separately.QUESTION 1 Explain how almostone burn d take be a jitney plainly not a draw, a leader still not a conductor, and both a theater director and a leader.A charabanc is a person with a crease of overseeing one or much(prenominal) employees or department to en authorized these employees or departments do their job or assigned duties as required. Usually a senior manager testament watch over his or her work. They be possessed of to review and approve timesheets for their employees and may give way the chances to approve expense accounts. The term of manager is not the same for leader since the two terms be not the same. A manager must ensure the appropriate delivery of human resources and reinforcement to meet the routine daily harvest-feastivity objectives. The manager is known as detailed oriented.Mangers don not see the overall picture and be less interested regarding the want-term corporate goals and mission. They are worried well-nigh details as a result, they do not make them a near leader. Some managers may have certain leadership qualities but they live too foc utilize on their daily operations and are unable to provide di rection and vision to the organization. A manager plans, organizes, leads, and controls whereas a leader entice others through communication, motivation, discipline, direction and dynamicsTypically, the goals are peg down for a beginning manager by someone higher rank in an organization. Here , the manager have to develop a plan to achieve the goal set. They have to provide feedbacks to their employees as they work with those plans. To be a manager , developing skills at all level is crucial . At a beginning level , morals of two area where a manager need to focus their skill development are the baron to manage their meetings and developing their own planning tools such as to do a list.A leader is different from manager. A leader is a person who has vision, a drive and a commitment to achieve that vision, and the skills to make it happen. A leader see a problem that needs to be fixed or a goal that needs to be achieved.A leader is also a person who guides others towards a common goal, demo the employees by example and creating an environment in which other team members discover active and involved in any process or task. A leader is a ethical listener. Leaders have to keep up their mind open to others ideas. They sens come up with immature ways to attain the goal set. It is the leaders job to make sure that everyone in the company is being heard. Leaders have to listen to the team members ideas and listen their criticism for improvements.Leaders have to be focus all the time. They have to keep on remind themselves and the team members of the goals and mission. Staying on track and keep the team members on track ,the team lead stay motivated and more productive. As leader of the group, it is important that you schedule time to meet with your team to establish and check-in nearly the goals you hope to achieve.Leaders also have to be organized. Leaders are responsible in a push-down storage of things and might be very busy sometimes. A leader sht up set the tone for the team. A leader who is organized helps motivate team members to be organized as well. As a leader, youre responsible for a lot and youre probably going to be very busy at times. However, you still need to find time to talk with your team. A good way to do this is to set frequent group meetings, so that no question or concern goes too long without attention.Leaders also have to be decisive. Although an important part of being a leader involves listening to the people surrounding, they have to remember that they are not perpetually going to be able to reach a compromise. When this happens, dont be horror-stricken to make the final decision, charge if some team members disagree with the plans. self-assured is the most important characteristics of a leader, leaders have to believe themselves and the winner of the team members. Show others that you are dedicated, intelligent, and proud of what you are doing.A manager basically directs resources to eat up predet ermined goals or projects. For example, a manager may engage in hiring, training, and programing employees in order to accomplish work in the most efficient and personify effective manner possible. A manager is considered a failure if they are not able to complete the project or goals with efficiency. .On the other hand, a leader indoors a company develops individuals in order to complete predetermined goals and projects. A leader develops relationships with their employees by building communication, exampling images of supremacy, and by showing loyalty. As an example of a manager, A company CEO directs Wong, one of the companies up and advent managers, to hire enough new employees to provide the company with a node service department. Wong chthonictakes his project with enthusiasm. He hires besides those employees who can work the assigned hours, will accept the modest pay, and have experience working in customer service. He trains his new employees to perform the job to his expectations and assigns the employees to their new positions. Wong measures his victor in terms of efficiency, calls handled per hour, and personify effectiveness, for example did he meet his cipher?. However, Wong did not anticipate that of the employees he hired, only a handful would remain working six months later. Moreover, as an example of a leader, Ahmed obtains the same denomination as Wong. Ahmed hires employees that he believes he can develop a working relationship with, versus just those employees who will worked the assigned hours and take the modest pay. Ahmeds goal is to hire a diverse group of employees, some of who do not have any customer service experience, who he feels he can develop a personal connection. A large part of Ahmeds training involves team building, telling successful stories, and listening to each employees own desires for what constitutes a fulfilling job. Ahmed still assigns his employees their job duties and schedules at the end of training, an d he also measures success in terms of efficient and equal effectiveness, but he also measures success in terms of low employee turnover, employee morale, and employee development. Ahmed feels proud when one of his employees obtains an climb on level position a year or two after(prenominal) being hired. The skills to be a leader or a manager are not exclusive in nature. A leader who only displays leadership skills will be ineffective when it comes to checking time cards, completing employee reviews, and scheduling employee vacation time things that employers require their managers to do on timely bases. Similarly, a manager who spends all his/her time completing paperwork and reading reports only creates more problems for him or her because they lack a developing relationship with their employees. Many companies, one person may play the role of both leader and manager. In others, these roles are carried out by different people. And in many cases, the roles convergency and leaders need to manage and managers need to lead. However, it is critical that both roles are performed effectively for a company to succeed, especially a company with employees. Without a vision for the future, a company has no direction and no goals for which to strive. severe leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. As a manager who would same(p) to become a better leader to inspire youremployees into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things you must be, know, and, do. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through continual work and study. Good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their leadership skills. Leaders and managers also have much different conceptions of work itself. Leaders develop new approaches to long-standing problems. Leaders work in high-risk positions because of a stro ng wickedness to quotidian work. Conversely, managers view work as an enabling process. Managers tolerate practical, mundane work because of a strong survival instinct that makes them risk-averse. They are good at reaching compromises and mediating conflicts between opposing perspectives, but lack the invite to avoid future conflicts.QUESTION 2 Identify two very different organizations that compete on a cost leadership strategy and explain how they do this, i.e. find out what they do that enables them to keep their prices low.The cost leadership strategic is to gain a competitive avail. Make it into a simple word, cost leadership is reduce the cost to fight with their rival in same indus turn in. The pattern and the design had been created, so, the companies will produce it with their own manufactory. Follow by this, both companies will audition to reduce the monetary evaluate of the product. They will make sure the product is good. The after-sales service is one of the parts they can do, and get the feedback from the customers, and get to improve better to the customers need.Within the Michael Portal 5 forces, First of all, the bargaining power of supplier. For the Baby Kiko association, all the product are make by own, so that, the raw materia l of they used is direct from the manufactory, so the price of the product can easy to under control. An opposite, about the Anakku Company, some if the products like car seat or toys are manufacture from the supplies. Mostly, the Anakku Company will control by the supplier. But, for the Anakku Company, the main product for sell is clothing and the accessories like bottles, teethers, feeding accessories and etc. If the supplies increase the price, so they will change the supplier to get the raw material and try to product good product for their customers.Next, the bargaining power of customer or buyer is one of the forces that both companies used. The price had been set and the customers no have too much or no have power to turn over to reduce the price. The entire product had been fix price, unless the company does the promotion like discount, so the customer will get the lower price of the product. Both companies have provided onsite service and after-sale service. And some of th e product will give about 1 week to 1 year of warranty depend on the product. The threats of the entry of new competitor will also bend the cost. If got new competitor join into this industry, the company will spend more capital to do promotion as like discount or adverting to draw and quarter people. This kind of money will increase the cost, so the profit will been decrease. Otherwise, both company had been survive in Malaysia taking a long period time, they have their own popularity in this country. For the Anakku Company, they mostly are produce the safety and useful product. The product no easy to damage and some of the product have the warranty to attract the customer to buy it. This is the advantage for them and no need scare about the new competitor to try to attack them.Besides that, the Baby Kiko Company more is based on the creative and innovative product to attract customers. The design and the fashion are new and look nicely. Based on the customers, they will take feed back and get the new the information to produce the product. Those are the advantage of the both companies the new competitor does not have too much power and cost to survive.Other than that, the intensity of competitor rivalry it may also influence the cost. Take a basic word, who can get the lower cost, who will win in the market. Misunderstandings :: essays research papers

Thus far this semester, we have learned of how language functions as a whole on society, but Ill be doing something a little diverse. Let me start off with a question. Who here has gotten into a fight with their significant other or just a assistant of the opposite sex over a mis registering, misinterpretation, or feel that they argon just speaking another language and you dont understand them? This so-called phenomenon is best described by the metaphor of men atomic number 18 from mars and women are from venus and thats why we speak different languages. We dont really come from different planets, but we are very different in our communication styles. Our extraction of language is affect by our sex and gender. This is epitomized by the ever so popular clich of, I dont understand women/men.? And this clich was verified by your answers to the question I just posed. While the most obvious function of language is to draw information, language also contributes to at least two othe r as important, but less often recognized, functions (1) to establish and maintain social relationships, and (2) to express and create the social identity of the speaker. In my paper I leave alone attempt to verify how language is affected by sex and gender. My special focus will be on Deborah Tannens work on understanding women and men in conversation.Tannen discusses many disparities in language caused by gender such as men often seeking unprejudiced solutions to problems and useful advice whereas women tend to try and establish intimacy by discussing problems and cover concern and empathy in order to reinforce relationships. Female subculture uses language to mannikin equal relationships, go male subculture uses language to build hierarchical relationships. If conformist to the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis that language shapes the way we see the world, language allows people to spin on ideas influencing the younger generation. The gender identity that accompanies our sex is pred etermined by our parents perception of sex and gender. Typically, little girls are brocaded to be sensitive and soft and to express their feelings, but boys are asked to be tough and detached from their emotions. Take for example a boy and a girl who play together and both fall down. Typically, the girl would be allowed to cry and will be picked up and taken care of while the little boy would be asked to stop crying and suck it up.

Stories as Attitudes :: Sociology Essays Research Papers

Stories as AttitudesCuriosity seems to be innately part of the homophile experience. With this propensity towards curiosity comes our seemingly insatiable need to search for answers to the worlds some unanswered (and c erstivably unanswerable?) questions. Perhaps the most(prenominal) important of these questions envision the origin of the world, of life, and of us as human beings. The need to account for our take in beginnings can be seen throughout history, as multiple explanations have been offered from versatile cultures, religions, philosophies and disciplines. For example, the folklore of even the most primitive human tribes indicates that they had given some opinion to questions about the origin and history of the world (Mayr, 2001, p.1). This urge to account for a beginning has indeed led to many different answers and justifications throughout time, the most popular and noteworthy being the stories of creationism and evolution (Mayr, 2001). These two accounts at startl e appear to be entirely irreconcilable, thus sparking centuries of heated controversy and debate. The economic consumption of this discussion is not to attempt to resolve the age-old arguments among creationists and evolutionists, but alternatively to investigate the psychosocial reasons behind the power of each sides assertion that they and they alone argon right. According to the definition of an military position (i.e., any cognitive federal agency that summarizes our evaluation of an object, which may be the self, other people, things, actions, events, or ideas), the stories/explanations that we come up with to account for the world around us are nothing more than than attitudes (Smith & Mackie, 2000, p. 247). Evaluating the inherent characteristics of attitudes will allow us to gain insight into unseasoned (and more useful?) ways of thinking about persuasion (i.e., the treat by which attitudes are developed, reinforced, or changed by communications), thereby allowing us t o further understand why conflicting stories, specifically the stories of creationism vs. evolution, can be perceived as tremendously threatening (Smith & Mackie, 2000, p. 248). People form attitudes/ require stories because they are useful in mastering the social environment and in establishing important connections with others. It is a well- known fact in psychology that once an attitude is formed, it becomes very closely linked to the representation of the object to which that attitude has been ascribed (i.e., the attitude object) (Smith & Mackie, 2000). This cognitive connection helps us to negotiate our interactions with these attitude objects in two ways through the object appraisal or intimacy function and/or the instrumental or utilitarian function.

Americas New War :: Politics Government Essays

Americas smart struggle America is currently at war against some intangible entity called Terrorism. I know that seems like and unnecessary statement of the obvious, but sometimes I feel the need to be reminded of the fact that we ar really bit a war. It is almost laughable how easy it is to avoid thinking close to Americas New struggle. How can a realm go to war without the involvement of its population? The American public is not universe asked to unite in support of our troops overseas in that location has been no request for sacrifice or conservation of resources. Instead, we are being urged to consume, travel, and go on with our routine lives. According to an article titled, Our World War, by Jonathan Rowe, the advertising industry has wracked its clever brains to conjure from the ashes of the World lot Center an upbeat buying mood (Adbusters Jan/Feb 2002 no. 39). The world has changed and we are asked to return to life as usual. I find this concern with consumer federal agency somehow incongruent with the events that are taking place in Afghanistan slump now. The economy is, without a doubt, a defining characteristic of the American route of life, and a weakened economy would jeopardize its stability and security. Sept. 11 dealt a very serious blow to the economy, demonstrating the cost of inaction, says White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan. New security measures are needed for the sake of the economy and the safety of the American people (Ramstack). Our economic stability should be monitored and increased security measures should be taken after an attack like the one on kinfolk 11th. However, I feel a lack of concern for the lives that are at stake in the Middle East. I have to question whether our economic status is more important than the thousands of soldiers that are engaged in the war abroad. So much emphasis has been placed on the continuation of the American Dream, that after the drama of the attack wore off, the American unity and militarization have been directed towards malls and car dealerships. Maybe someone can justify to me how my next purchase will benefit those sacrificing lives on the front lines.

An Analysis of the Legality of Abortion :: Argumentative Persuasive Topics

An Analysis of the Legality of AbortionIn Abortion and Social Justice, Dennis Horan, J.D. et alii get by The Legal Case For the Unborn Child Abortion is not a sequestered matter. The destruction of clement life, even incipient or developing human life in the womb, can never be considered a private matter under our law. The contention that it is a private matter would be overly ludicrous and absurd to even argue were it not so often put forth under such intellectually undefiled auspices. Would those civil libertarians who argue that miscarriage is a private matter, argue that the course session of civil decents is purely a private matter between the filthy man and the man that thwarts them? Certainly not. Just as the civil right-hand(a) to vote must be protected by law, so too the most fundamental and basic of all civil rights - the Right to intent - must be protected by law.(105) In her book, Abortion and conversation Pro-Choice, Pro-Life, and American Law, Ruth Colker ex areas why Roe v. Wade is considered an activist conclusiveness Second, it Roe v. Wadeset the tone for how activist the Court would be in our lives. Rather than just rule for the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade, thereby invalidating the challenged Texas abortion statute, the Court outlined the parameters of a constitutional abortion statute. In other(a) words, the Court drafted a model statute rather than simply large down the Texas statute. Such judicial involvement in legislative act is considered to be highly activist because the Court, in a sense, is displacing the legislatures role in society. Such activisim is often criticized for interfering with legislative dialogue, because the judiciary, an undemocratic institution, has substituted its judgment for that of the legislature. (102) reason president Ronald Reagan in his book, Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation, states how the Roe v. Wade ending is a violation of the Constitution Make no mistake, aboriton-on-demand is no t a right granted by the Constitution. No serious scholar, including one inclined to agree with the Courts result, has argued that the framers of the Constitution intended to create such a right. concisely after the Roe v. Wade decision, Professor John Hart Ely, straightway Dean of Stanford Law School, wrote that the opinion is not constitutional law and gives near no sense of an obligation to try to be. Nowhere do the plain words of the Constitution even hint at a right so sweeping as to permit abortion up to the meter the child is ready to be born.
